Find Your Voice: Five More Minutes

What up internet? I’m back! Here’s a new original, “Five More Minutes,” performed by my friend Zahra Rothschild and I at the Lowell Spring Choir Concert. I wrote the lyrics to this song a while back, but only put it together a few weeks ago. Big shout out to Jon (aka the editor-in-chief of The Wave) for helping me with the chords and figuring out the structure of this song, it’s always a pleasure to jam with him.

“Five More Minutes” is a little different from most of the songs I’ve written in the past. For one thing, this was the first song I had actually been able to write in quite some time, partly because I’ve been focused on other projects and partly because I’ve been going through a bit of a writer’s block. For another, all the aspects of writing this song came together in less than a week. The words flowed naturally in an order that made sense to me—I didn’t have to wrestle as much with the lyrics as I usually do. Additionally, I rarely write happy songs. They never felt genuine to me when I tried to write them in the past, and though this song isn’t exactly happy (more bittersweet than anything), it came from a genuinely soft moment. Gross. Anyways, I hope you enjoy listening to this song as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Stay safe out there and see you next time!

Lyrics:
sketchbook lines on monday morning
drawing fingers through your hair
gotta save this golden memory
don’t know the next time i’ll be here

too late to get my hopes up
too fast to talk this through
there’s no point in holding on now
you’re not for me, i’m not for you

so let’s stay here a little longer, baby
i’ve never felt so gold inside
keep this moment safe before our time is gone
when we’ve got to say goodbye

memorize the way your smile glows
the lines i draw somehow erased
hold my breath so the seconds stretch by slower
but all the same they fade away

too late to get attached now
too fast to
better leave before my hopes forget the fact
you’re not for me, i’m not for you

don’t worry, i’m not falling in love
it’s much too late for that rush

so let’s stay here a little longer, baby
i’ve never felt so gold inside
keep this moment safe before our time is gone
when we’ve got to say goodbye

please just stay here a little longer, baby
can’t you feel the fading time?
keep this moment safe because our time is gone
and now we’ve got to say goodbye
