Psychic Psychedelia: Rakim Mayers

Josson Belluschi

This new post is a piece on my ALL-TIME favorite hip-hop/rap artist of all time, A$AP Rocky. Recently, I had the opportunity to go and see him live at the Bill Graham Civic Center in downtown San Francisco. This experience was truly amazing; he was as graceful and imaginative as I believed him to be. One of my favorite parts was how he made the performance of his songs unique and not just a simple restatement of the songs I have heard countless times. For instance, in one of his songs, Telephone Calls, he rapped up to a certain lyric then said that lyric over and over. This got the crowd extremely riled up. Then he cut the beat out and continued saying the lyric like spoken word. As he finished repeating the line, the beat kicked back in and the crowd went wild. It truly was a night to remember. Due to my fascination and love for this artist, I created my next post on his album At. Long. Last. A$AP. I decided to mess around with a few new settings and tools that I recently learned about, and I really liked what I eventually produced. I hope you enjoy my post and while you do, put on some Rocky.

The Product

“I’m ridin’ ’round with my system pumpin’ LSD
I look for ways to say, ‘I love you’
But I ain’t into makin’ love songs
Baby, I’m just rappin’ to this LSD
She ain’t a stranger to the city life
I introduce her to this hippy life”
