I started this project with a straightforward goal: to build a giant bridge. I never really saw myself as the “creative” type—I always thought pretty close to the box. I used to watch other artists bring their ideas to life, each with their own unique touch, and I’d wonder if I could ever do the same.
Coming into SMW, I wasn’t sure if I loved my project. It didn’t feel creative enough. But as I kept folding cranes and talking to other artists, students and friends, I began to realize that the project was primarily a way for me to connect to others. I got to listen to so many beautiful stories and to hear everyone’s own version of success.
There’s always more to be done, but I’m proud of the process, and of what it took just to make those small cranes. I genuinely hope that everyone I spoke to sees whatever they wrote down come to fruition, even if it feels impossibly ambitious.
