I like collecting trash off the street. But only good trash. I won’t just take anything. I want metal, nails, screws, bolts, rust. I pick them up off the ground and put them in my pocket when no one’s looking, and when I get home, I put them in a mug on my shelf with the others. I don’t know what I’m collecting it for. Sometimes it’s nice just to do something because you want to do it.
I should have made something portfolio-worthy this cycle, like a big painting, something real respectable. But I was sick of paintings, and of what I should do, and I wanted to do this. “This” turned out to be ugly little clay creatures with scrap metal souls, uneven and unplanned. I don’t know if they’re anything, really. I just wanted to do it.
