Hello people! In this edition of Mission to Ambition, I will be sharing the interview I had with my close friend, Louise Masong (pictured above). She is an amazing person, and also another Waver (her column can be found here). I’ve known her since my sophomore year, and I am so lucky to have her in my life.
Currently, Louise is trying to become a filmmaker. She got accepted to Los Angeles Film School, where she will further hone her skills. Seeing her strive for her dream inspires me, so I interviewed her in hopes of getting some advice on how I can reach my own dream.
Question Time!
How did you start? What were the steps you took to pursue your dream?
“I actually am not exactly sure about what steps I’ve taken, to be quite honest with you. I just continued doing what I’ve always been doing, what I love the most. There have been those rare occasions where people, whether they’re a friend, a complete stranger or someone who works for a company notices me and my work and they’ll hire me or we’ll collaborate. Nowadays I’ve been working really hard to prepare for colleges that specialize in Film because I know for sure they can help me with the dreams I have.”
How did you find this interest of yours?
“It all started when I was a kid. At four-years old, I was very hands on with everything I saw. As weird as it sounds, I used to sit and watch as the light moved throughout the day, and it would create something new to look at. Then my parents bought me a camera and that’s how I found my love for pictures. I took photos of everything. They were horrible, but it was something about the fact I could capture any moment I wanted with this tiny box in my hands that made me so, incredibly happy.”
What advice would you give to people who don’t know what their dream is? What can they do to find theirs?
“I would say that there’s honestly no rush to finding out what you want to do. Not everyone can be absolutely certain of what they’d like to pursue immediately, and that’s why we have all these options and opportunities to try different things, that hopefully leads to you finding something that could be the start of something big.”
Impact of this Interview
It was definitely a fun and interesting to interview my friend. The answers she gave me made me realize that maybe I’ve been focusing on the wrong things. I’ve been trying to search for a dream when I still don’t know what I’m truly passionate about. The passion that drove Louise came naturally to her, and eventually led her to apply and get into a film school in the future. Maybe I need to concentrate more on discovering what my passion is before I start aiming for a goal.
