Cotton Candy Melodies: Think About Me

Angel Arada

Hey everyone! This time I am back with another original song. YAAAAAAS. Such excite.

On a more serious note, this song is actually a little more special than my other songs. About a month ago, I was just playing with my guitar on a Saturday and felt like writing a song (like any normal person). I was thinking of topics to write about, and then I remembered my upcoming graduation. I realized that my high school career would soon be ending. Senior year went by so fast and I was overwhelmed by the fact that I will not be seeing a lot of my friends anymore (yes, I have friends). A lot of my friends are also moving out of San Francisco, so I was feeling a little sad about that. Then, I was thinking about how depressing it would be if ten years in the future I coincidentally ran into a close friend from high school and how awkward it would be. I wouldn’t want it to be awkward. I would want to be able to reminisce together and laugh at our inside jokes again.

To soothe my sadness, I wrote a song. I was actually kind of annoyed when I started to write because I felt so inspired and emotional and everything, but my sister kept bothering me to help her cook something. She’s seven years older than me. She ruined my vibe, man. Being the good sister I am though, I helped her and then quickly relocated to my room so I could write in peace. After two hours, I was finally done. I took my fingers off my guitar and oh my goodness. I did not realize until then how much my fingers hurt. But it’s okay, it was worth it.

To all of the friends I made in high school: As we graduate and move onto adulthood (ew), I hope we could still be friends and talk to each other once in awhile. I would really love it if our friendship could stay the same and even if we can’t see each other, it’d be nice if you could think about me (totally not part of the lyrics). I’ll think of you too, don’t worry.

Also, thank you for putting up with my initial awkwardness. Congratulations! You got to the crazy! You’re one of the special ones. Or if you didn’t, it’s okay you’re awesome too.

This song is for you.

Think About Me

I walked across the road with leaves falling
And I remembered you
I smiled and our memories came flowing
Through my mind, it’s true

Would you remember me?
In about ten years from now
Would you still care about me?
‘Cause I know I’d run to you if you needed someone.

I don’t wanna be strangers
I just want to laugh together
I don’t mean to be sentimental
But you will always be special

So stand by me
As we sail across the ocean
As our lives speed up in motion
Stand by me
When we can’t see each other
It’d be nice if you think about me
Just think about me

Stay by my side
We won’t say goodbye
Oh I won’t forget
All our jokes, I bet
That’s how important you are to me
Oh I won’t regret
The mistakes we set
They’re what made you special to me

I don’t wanna be strangers
I just want to laugh together
I don’t mean to be sentimental
But you will always be special

So stand by me
As we sail across the ocean
As our lives speed up in motion
Stand by me
When we can’t see each other
It’d be nice if you think about me
Just think about me

Oh I will look back one day
And laugh at how stupid we were
But I’ll smile and maybe call you up
Because those moments are irreplaceable

So stand by me
As we sail across the ocean
As our lives speed up in motion
Stand by me
When we can’t see each other
It’d be nice if you think about me
Just think about me
