FIT: Nighttime Finale
Sophia Puliatti
I am a huge fan of night walks. I find that walking is easier in the dark, (I know it’s a bit unusual, but I am like a vampire and do not like to walk in the daylight). The absence of other people creates a much different experience than I would find during the day, walking in Forest Hill. In the night, there is no sunshine to overheat you, and the air is thin and crisp rushing past your ears. It is just a better experience.
Recently I went on such a walk to Ocean Beach around 10:00 pm. Before I arrived at the beach, my friend and I stopped at the Java Beach Cafe to get something to drink and hear some live music. We ordered some Italian sodas for a couple of dollars. That night the live music at the cafe was performed by a guy in his 60s playing covers of Neil Young, which happens to be some some of my favorite music. My friend and I got our order and sat outside with the window open so we could hear the music clearly.
After that, we went to the beach and walked along the shore and spent a couple of hours walking down the beach and then sat on the sea wall (the concrete wall that protects the streets and citizens from tides and sand) by the sidewalk. Hanging out is the beach at night is a great way to spend time with a group of friends, you don’t have to worry about running into anyone you know, there are no crowds, and you can share some silence as you watch the stars.
This is going to be my last post for FIT, I hope that all of you got something out of my column.
Farewell!
